this evening there was an activity, criminal activity, on the campus of the massachusetts institute of technology, m.i.t., in cambridge, where one police officer was shot and killed. it wasn't until roughly 2:00 in the morning east coast that -- i'm told now -- i see them. the police station, the mobile station, mobile command center, has moved from here on the crime scene and is now going to whereabouts unknown. we don't know where. but the fact it would be doing so at 2:30 in the morning is an interesting development in what's going on. in any case, to recap at 10:30 this evening there was a shooting on the campus of mrchlgts i.t. in cambridge, a police officer was killed. also a carjacking. one suspect was apprehended in watertown. that person has been apprehended and arrested. we don't know if what's going on in cambridge and watertown is related at all to what took place on monday, but obviously there is a heightened police presence, a heightened law enforcement presence, both boston police and the fbi. i'm going to check in right now with juliette kayyem, if she's fill on the phone. are you

i have talked to number of technology executives, having been a technology executive before i got here, and they are frequently ahead they have government because every day they're fighting hacking attempts and they're on the front livense cybersecurity. now it's not about whether they want free help, who wouldn't want free help? should we as taxpayers subsidize those who have not invested in their own cybersecurity? should this be a bailout of companies with poor cybersecurity? but the truth of the matter is moat of -- most of the learning that needs to occur is from the private sector to the government. in fact, we're taking some of those steps. the government and n.s.a. are using private contractors who are on the forefront of this issue every day. that's more the direction we need to go. the notion that somehow the government would be of assistance to companies is laughable to many of the technology executives i talk to. nor would they expect to call the government for help when they themselveses are so far ahead. but look, to the extent we want to get the government involved with
